Abstract: In this talk we will introduce the Sum-Product conjecture and the Erdős-Falconer distance problems. In additive combinatorics, there is a guiding finite field philosophy which suggests that difficult problems in harmonic analysis can be modeled upon finite fields where analytic issues become mild and tractable. We will discuss some finite field variants of these problems that we have been studying. This talk is based on joint work with Dung M. Ha and our most recent work. |
