An Workshop on “Equlibrium and Fixed Point Problems: Theory and Algorithms” will be held at Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), Hanoi, Vietnam, from August 25 to August 29, 2014. The five-day event will consist of a two-day workshop and mini-courses. The scope of the workshop is to bring together members of the mathematical community whose interest lies in theory, methods and applications of equilibrium and fixed point problems.

The 2014 Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences was given to George Lusztig, Abdun Nur Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Lusztig has already contributed a lot to get answers of basic questions arising in the representation theory of the structures.

By applying method of algebra and Lie theory among other methods, Lusztig has successfully got to know about the characters of the various Lie theoretical structures..

 Along with a medal, winners also receive US$1 million in prize money to be shared among fellow winners in the same category. It was in 2002 when the Shaw Prize was established by Run Run Shaw, an Asian media mogul.

Winners will receive their awards in Hong Kong at the 11th annual ceremony on September 24, 2014.

Viện Toán học tổ chức Chương trình “Đào tạo thạc sĩ Toán học phối hợp với các trường đại học Quốc tế”. Học viên lớp Cao học quốc tế (CHQT) được tài trợ kinh phí học ngoại ngữ (tiếng Pháp) và với thành tích học tập tốt được giới thiệu đi học cao học năm thứ hai hoặc làm nghiên cứu sinh tại nước ngoài (Pháp, Đức, Mĩ, Italia, Singapore). Năm học 2014-2015 lớp CHQT được khai giảng vào tháng 9/2014.

Lớp CHQT của Viện Toán được lựa chọn từ những học viên của Chương trình cao học chính quy năm thứ nhất của Viện và những học viên học dự thính của chương trình này. (Các học viên dự thính, nếu được chọn vào lớp CHQT, có trách nhiệm thi đỗ vào chương trình cao học chính quy của Viện, tổ chức vào tháng 9-10/2014).

Viện Toán học khuyến khích các sinh viên đã tốt nghiệp Đại học năm 2014 hoặc trước đó, ngành Toán hoặc Toán-Tin, hệ chính quy, với kết quả từ Khá trở lên, có nguyện vọng học tập ở những môi trường học thuật cao, đăng ký tham gia học dự thính lớp cao học của Viện Toán học để chuẩn bị cho việc xét tuyển vào lớp Cao học quốc tế.

Dự kiến thời gian học: Tháng 6-9/2014.

Thời gian đăng ký: từ 26/5 tới 13/6.

This School is devoted to the mathematical modeling and analysis of various types of materials like solitons, inelastic solids, and more. The main weight is put on the foundations and description of methods and results from applied analysis that are used to describe these materials and their physical properties, which are essentially several types of partial differential equations. Phenomena like damages, viscosity, phase separation, waves and more are discussed. Mathematical topics covered comprise gradient flows, (stochastic) homogenisation, variational inequalities and much more. The speakers are well-known mathematicians working in applied fields.
