Department of Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing

Department Mathematical Foundations for Computer Science

The Department "Mathematical Foundations for Computer Science" has his original name "Discrete Mathematics" (1975 - 1998), and  based on the Working Group "Automata Theory and Formal Langues" belonging to the Faculty "Cybernetics" directed by Phan Đình Diệu (1970 - 1975). Heads of the Departements (1975 - 2010): Đỗ Long Vân,  Phạm Trà Ân, Ngô Đắc Tân and Lê Công Thành.

The main research subjects of the Department: Graph theory, discrete dynamical systems, enumerative combinatorics, algorithms and complexity, Automata theory.

The seminar of the Department works every week from 1970 which composed of members of the Department and researchers from National University of Hanoi, Ecole Polytechnique, Hanoi University of Education 2, University of Transport, etc. We have several National research projects, NAFOSTED projects. We participate to the PhD and Master program of the Institute. And we have international collaborations on research and graduate formation, especially with French Universities.
