Abstract: Let J be a homogeneous ideal in a polynomial ring (over the complex numbers) that defines a smooth projective variety. We discuss the saturation degree of powers of J; that is, the small degree from which a power of J and its saturation agree. We give linear bounds for the saturation degrees of powers of J in terms of the defining degrees of J.
