The 2014 Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences

The 2014 Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences was given to George Lusztig, Abdun Nur Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Lusztig has already contributed a lot to get answers of basic questions arising in the representation theory of the structures.

By applying method of algebra and Lie theory among other methods, Lusztig has successfully got to know about the characters of the various Lie theoretical structures..

 Along with a medal, winners also receive US$1 million in prize money to be shared among fellow winners in the same category. It was in 2002 when the Shaw Prize was established by Run Run Shaw, an Asian media mogul.

Winners will receive their awards in Hong Kong at the 11th annual ceremony on September 24, 2014.
