Abstract: We consider the complex rational functions, it defines a locally trivial fibration outside some bifurcation set. Such fibration generates monodromy of the generic fibers. The monodromy zeta function is defined in terms of the characteristic polynomials of the monodromy of fiber. In this talk, we interpret the monodromy zeta function in terms of the nearby cycles and give a formula for the zeta function of rational functions.
