Abstract: Stanley depth is a geometric invariant of a module which has some common properties with the homological depth invariant. Stanley conjecture states that this geometric invariant is bounded below by the depth of the module. Although the Stanley conjecture was disproved recently, it is interesting to find classes of ideals which satisfy the inequality of conjecture, which only very partial results are known. In this talk, we first review briefly the basic concepts of Stanley depth and then discuss some of the recent developments in the theory.
