Higgs bundles and related problems

Abstract: The moduli space of Higgs bundles on a projective curve has many applications in geometry and Langlands program. It plays an important role in the study of  representation of the fundamental group of the curve and in the Ngo's proof of the fundamental lemma for Lie algebras.  Despite its good applications, the cohomology of the moduli space has not yet been determined. In this talk we want to survey the moduli space of the Higgs bundles and explain some progress in the study of the cohomology of this moduli space.
