Abstract: It is well-known that the depth function of the powers of a homogeneous ideal is always convergent. In general, this function tends to be a non-increasing function. It was a surprise when Herzog and Hibi showed that any non-decreasing non-negative convergent numerical function is the depth function of the powers of a monomial ideal. They raised the conjecture that this is true for any non-negative convergent numerical function. This talk will present an affirmative solution to this conjecture by N.D. Hop, H.H. Tai, N.V.
