Carlitz has introduced an analogue of Bernoulli numbers for the ring of polynomials over a finite field. These numbers are called nowadays Bernoulli-Carlitz numbers . In this talk, we will present some fascinating properties of these numbers. We will explain how these properties (some of them being relatively recent) are linked to the arithmetic of Drinfeld modules . This will lead us to recent developments in the arithmetic theory of function field over finite fields according to the works of G. Anderson, D. Goss, L. Taelman among others. |
