Abstract: We discuss a question raised by H. Esnault and M. Kerz concerning the relationship between non-abelian Noether–Lefschetz loci and complex analytic subvarieties inside leaves of the isomonodromy deformation of local systems. We present recent progress toward understanding this connection and describe geometric structures arising in this context. This is joint work with T. Z. Hu, R. R. Sun, and J. B. Yang.
