Abstract: I'll survey a number of questions and results on classifying algebraic solutions to differential equations. These questions go back to work of Eisenstein, Kummer, and Schwarz on algebraic hypergeometric functions, and were pursued in the 20th century by Christol, Grothendieck, Katz, and others. In particular I will discuss some recent developments on classifying algebraic solutions to non-linear differential equations appearing in algebraic geometry--isomonodromy equations--and understanding their arithmetic.
