Tóm tắt: We will give an algebraic overview of our joint project with Nick Katz to study the possible structure of monodromy groups of Kloosterman and hypergeometric l-adic sheaves in characteristic p. We also discuss explicit constructions of local systems and their related exponential sums on G_m or A^1 that realize various (close to be) simple groups.
