Abstract: In 1962, Lang proved a conjecture of Cartier concerning transcendental points on group varieties which is a generalization of the classical Lindemann theorem. It was realized about that time that transcendence theory has much to do with algebraic groups. In this direction, W"{u}stholz analytic subgroup theorem is one of the most general results in transcendental number theory. In this talk, we discuss some recent results on algebraic groups and transcendence.
