In order to highlight the excellent achievements of Prof. Boris Sholimovich Mordukhovich, The Wayne State University (Detroit, USA) in research, training, and his distinguished contributions to the development of Mathematics in Vietnam, May 9, 2014, in the morning, the Institute of Mathematics organized Ceremony of Conferring the Honorary Doctor Degree of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to him.
Presented at the Ceremony were: Prof. Nguyen Dinh Cong – Vice Presedent of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Ninh Khac Ban – Director of Department of International Cooperation of VAST, Prof. Le Tuan Hoa – Director of the Institute of Mathematics, Prof. Boris Sholimovich Mordukhovich and his spouse, Mrs Margaret Ann Mordukhovich.
Presented at the Ceremony were also the scientists of the Institute of Mathematics and from other institutions, universities.
At the Ceremony, Prof. Nguyen Dong Yen outlined the life and the carrier, as well as the many contributions of Prof. Boris Mordukhovich to the development of Mathematics in Vietnam.

Just after the Ceremony, Prof. Boris Mordukhovich gave a Colloquium lecture “Beauty of Variational Analysis” in 60 minutes.
The University of Padova, through funding from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, offers research fellowships for foreign students to attend Doctoral Courses. During the 3-year doctorate programme, successful candidates are entitled to full board and lodging.
15 PhD grants for the admission of foreign candidates to doctoral courses (30th series) a.y. 2014/15 are now available.

The National Academy of Sciences – USA announced on 29 April 2014 the election of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates from 15 countries in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.
Those elected today bring the total number of active members to 2,214 and the total number of foreign associates to 444. Foreign associates are nonvoting members of the Academy, with citizenship outside the United States.Among newly elected members and their affiliations at the time of election, there is Son Dam Thanh – a University Professor from University of Chicago, USA. Prof. Son is also a member of VIASM Scientific Council. He regularly helps VIASM in determining its scientific policy.

The CareerCast.com report ranks 200 jobs each year based on a number of criteria, including income, outlook, environmental factors, stress and physical demands. Mathematician, this year's No. 1 job, and statistician, No. 3, both jumped up 17 places from last year's ranking. Actuary, last year's winner, fell to No. 4, while tenured university professor took second place on the new list.
