Faltings' theorem

Tóm tắt: This talk is an invitation to the area of Diophantine geometry, the study of rational (and integral) solutions of polynomial equations over number fields. Apart from the notions in "classical" algebraic geometry, most of the content will be elementary.

After the introductory part, I shall mention the theory of height functions (Weil's height machine, Néron-Tate canonical height...), which plays the central role in the proof of many fundamental finiteness results. The rest of the talks will be devoted to sketching Vojta's proof of Faltings' celebrated theorem, which says that a curve of genus > 1 has only finitely many rational points.
