The winter school on Algebraic Geometry is organized by the Institute of Mathematics – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. It consists of two lecture series introducing basic notions and results in algebraic geometry. The participants include master students and PhD students. Last year undergraduate students and interested person can attend also

Lectures
The winter school on Algebraic Geometry consists of two lecture series given by
1. Sijong Kwak (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology KAIST): Introduction to the structure of Betti tables of projecive subschemes
Abstract: This is an introductory course on Betti tables of projective subschemes with an emphasize on projective varieties (irreducible, and reduced algebraic sets) Basic invariants of projective varieties and classifications of varieties with the maximal Betti numbers and examples with the maximal regularity of the structure sheaves are introduced.
We also explain many classical examples of varieties, for example, varieties of minimal degree, del Pezzo varieties, Fano varieties, scrolls over curves, Veronese varieties, and Segre varieties, etc. These varieties appear in the boundaries of some inequalities on projective invariants.

2. Ngo Viet Trung (Institute of Mathematics –VAST): Introduction to Algebraic Geometry
Abstract: This is an introductory course on Algebraic Geometry with an emphasize on the algebraic side. Basic concepts of Algebraic Geometry and their counterparts in Commutative Algebra will be presented simultaneously. The students only need to know higher algebra as usually taught in an undergraduate program.
