Abstract: Motivic integration was invented by Kontsevich in the well known 1995-Orsay seminar in order to prove Batyrev’s conjecture on Betti numbers of Calabi-Yau varieties. In this talk, we shall give a brief review of motivic integration and its applications that include Kontsevich’s proof for Batyrev’s conjecture. Furthermore, we shall recall the Denef-Loeser motivic Milnor fiber and its relationship with classical invariants in singularity theory.
